Automotive lightweighting beyond topology optimization
Published on July 22, 2020
Topology optimization — the tool that most other generative design solutions are built upon — provides valuable guidance on load paths, but comes with many inherent design limitations, making its applications limited.
In this nTop Live, Jonathan Harris, Lead Application Engineer at nTop, describes engineering design techniques that are most relevant for structural automotive design applications. He explains how to combine topology optimization results with intuitive engineering (for example, hollow structural sections) to unlock new levels of performance and greater lightweighting gains.
Watch and learn how to:
- Create monocoque-like hollow structures based on topology optimization results
- Use stress data to spatially control and optimize wall thickness in nTop
- Integrate reusable design nTop workflows to your existing engineering processes
